[Wear-Hard] Twiddler module in 2.6 kernel?

I noticed mention of a twiddler module in the 2.6 kernel release
notes, but the only one I've found is twidjoy which apparently allows it
to be used as a joystick.
Since I've had no luck so far getting the twiddler 2.2 driver to work
(although it did work back in the 2.1 , 2.2 kernel days) on my debian
etch system, is the twidjoy module workable for keyboarding too? Or do I
need both?
Surely someone has compiled the twiddler driver for a more recent
linux system? And it seems quite strange that Handykey doesn't even
offer a linux driver except for the old one.
