I've installed Linux on an MAIV several years ago... without an external
drive. It was a royal pain. I ended up having to make a generic OEM
Windows image and putting it on the hard drive on a different computer,
then transferring the drive back to the MAIV to un-hose the Win98
install. Next I installed WinLinux and installed a Linux base. Booted
to the linux install, installed lilo. (I probably could have installed
lilo from the other computer and tweaked it to work in the MAIV, but
this way though longer was less frustrating...) Copied a Linux install
ISO to a separate partition and made it bootable. Used lilo to boot the
Linux install partition and went from there.
On the MAIV, I had no issues that I can recall with sound or video under
Linux. I don't think I tried the camera out though.
Hope this helps a little.
