That is less of a problem than it seems. The larger displays were
commonly used in older analogue video cameras. You can pick up such
cameras on eBay for a couple of dollars and scavenge the controller
board, optics and a spare display from them. The wiring of these boards
is very simple and available on the web, and it shouldn't take you more
than a couple of hours to get a tiny NTSC television working.

I can dig up the details (camera models etc.) if anyone's interested.
