Looks like most of the control stuff is done over I2C, so it should be
pretty easy to do with a simple microcontroller (based on my limited
experience). The datasheet says the external part requirements are
minimal, but it doesn't include a reference implementation.

I tried requesting more data from them (Ref. implementation, app.
notes), but I suspect that my honesty might get in the way. I doubt
they have a lot of interest in doing business with someone who only
wants a few chips for prototyping.
