I use to think like you but now im not so sure,
i will gladly pay 1000usd for a realy good HMD, something you could use 
all day long, and not need new eayballs each mornig

.. for us living offshore, we usually pay extra taxes over USA price, 
for example a HMD of 1000usd tag price USA will cost 1800usd here 
(Montevideo / Uruguay), and that is a lot of money to have hanging in 
front of your face :)

a wearable should be replaceable.. becouse it is subject to many risks ..
