Certainly.  12 bit QVGA is doable.  Thats what the Microoptical DV-1
could do.

If you're hooking it up to a cell phone, you really don't need very high
resolution.  IIRC, the highest resolution I remember hearing about is
only 800x600.  In a monocle, for really ubiquitous use, anything higher
than that better be functionally transparent and cover a large percent
of your vision for an augmented reality overlay.

Looking at my blackberry, it sports a functional QVGA screen, though at
16-bit color.

I wouldn't mind a tethered connection, but I'm not thinking of anything
as universal as Bluetooth for the connection.  USB and VGA are fine if
you're carrying a UMPC or laptop, but few if any cell phones would
support it today.
