I'd still go for a wired mouse & possibly keyboard with a voice input &
PTT switch.

Something like this wired into a belt worn box might be useful:

For less tinkering this might be useful:

...or a mini trackball:

Too bad these are still so expensive:

This one might work with a little modification as an arm-mounted
keyboard (still expensive):

You might consider slinging one of these over your shoulder in a
cyberpunk console cowboy guitar-style:

I'm still not convinced that most people are hip to a cording keyboard.

I've had good results tethering my laptop to my Crackberry on T-Mobile's
EDGE network. It gives me about 128k-bits/s both ways: just about
enough for a buffered Youtube video and plenty for normal web and email
work.

I'm not satisfied with the HMDs I can afford though. I'm holding out to
find a small monocular color *VGA* HMD for under $200. Not interested
in QVGA, RCA, S-Video, nor vision obscuring (even MyVu Crystal) goggles
and can't afford an M-920 or SV-6.

After all these years, we have the processor, storage, network, and
debatably the battery tech affordable. Input devices are still iffy,
but HMDs are far from affordable.
