Yep CMOS sensors suck for video. They seem to work ok for still cameras thou. Maybe it's some magic in the JPG incoders?
Did Logitech finally desiced to support linux or you using the generic USB Video Class driver?
I think the Eyetap is cool but few people have the skills to make them. just geting a decent HMD hack is hard enough.
I'm thinking of making a 360 vision hat. Using a 9(for 34 vertival) or 11(for 44 vertical) camera ring. Really it's just for shooting Panoramas but need someway to make sure it's level. the camera I'll use is the VistaQuest VQ3007 it worked with my 2G SD card amd has native 2048x1536 CMOS sensor. It's great for hacking as it only has 3 buttons and a LCD counter. no preview screen and it runs off 1 AAA. You can find them cheap, around $30 online with shiping. The FredMeyers around here still have a bunch on clearance for $36. It only holds 14 pics at native res on it's 8MB. And unlike other cheap Volatile memory camera it has a built in back up Cap. They say 3 minutes but I've only tested for 30 secs and it kept the images. No idea if the Web Cam feature works with linux. I use some other type of camera for my 'veiw finder' function.
Anyone else use the VQ3007? I noticed that it's actual specs don't match the specs printed in the manual.
