DRAFT Run Log for 001128 Present: Sam - Jean Andrew - Osric, Neville Mike - Cailin Dave K - Ilk, logging ------------------------------- Major Events: * Leaving Vanir's Wrath * Neville Sics the Crafters Guild on Gwen's Machine * Touring Reality with the Archivist * Ilk is Scolded by the Serpent ------------------------------- Leaving Vanir's Wrath Verra, Flora, white-haired Cailin, Cailin, Natasha, the librarian, Snarsht, Osric, and Neville are around. Benedict and Norton are off somewhere. Suhuy, Cailin, Natasha, Neville, Flora, and the white-haired Cailin all prepare to leave via whale. A Jean saucer goes over to Benedict and offers him a lift out. Benedict is investigating the Julian situation. Jean fills him in on recent events, including the archivist and the plaque with Julian's nose. When Jean mentions that the nose can be tortured effectively, Benedict requests the plaque. Jean asks Corwin for the plaque. Corwin determines that he is on a mission from Marial and that he will check with her before ducking out to Pearl to acquire the plaque. Heartbeats after Suhuy has gotten into the whale, his Logrus is back. He tendri's out, not of his own volition. We'll get to what happened later in this log. The whale arrives outside the council chambers. As people start to scatter, a member of the etiquette guild emerges from Thelbane and asks if anyone has something to report to the King. Jean tells Silver Lyra that they have Julian's nose on a plaque... and I believe that there is a rabbit loose within me. Jean proceeds to fill her in on recent events. Neville chats with the etiquette guild member. Flora agrees to stay and brief Silver Lyra so that Neville can leave. The silver-haired Cailin is looking around bewildered. Jean introduces him to Chaos. "Which side of the spiral is it on --- the angel side or our side?" Jean and Cailin try to explain. The archivist speculates that Chaos is on their side, and that Amber is on the angel side. The book apparently talks about the convergence of many spheres. Jean asks Neville to bring the archivist to Gwen's mountain. Neville's warfare lights up like an election switchboard during an election in Florida. Jean wanders into House Cara and tells Laetatio about the alternate Cailin. Laetatio is amused, and is given a lift to Thelbane. Jean pulls out a Jewel of Judgment and shows it to the archivist. Neville tries to borrow it, with minimal success. Silver Lyra frets about there being multiple Jewels. Flora tries to calm her, claiming that Jean has the only Real Jewel, and the others are just fakes or amplifiers. Jean continues on at some length, with Flora deflecting suspicions. Silver Lyra gets rather worked up about a Jewel being kept in Chaos... in her Guild! Flora offers tea, and shooes out Jean. -------------------- Neville Sics the Crafters Guild on Gwen's Machine Neville heads to the Crafters' Guild. Jean and Cailin head to House Cara, with archivist in tow. Laetatio is brought back to Cara. The archivist fails to notice the Pattern. Neville reaches the Crafters' Guild. They give him the benefit of the doubt and bow to him as a member of a guild in good standing. Neville asks to speak with the Guildmaster about an important matter regarding an enemy of Chaos. "Does this have anything to do with the writ that the Queen gave us?" "What writ?" "One saying that because you were unable to do anything about a situation, that we should take over when you called for help." Neville asks to see the writ. The member leads Neville through some nasty environments in rapid succession; Neville calls for a pause and puts on the Frogdalorian armor. They arrive in a fairly impressive room - there are actual stars and suns in the ceiling illuminating the area, but nothing against which to gain a sense of scale. Sitting at the precise center of the room at a table which looks like it grew from the room is sitting what looks like a very old man studying something. Neville asks if it would be possible to see the writ before invoking it. The writ is several hundred pages long, and is determined to be not a nice document -- it even outlines the punishment should the Guild fail to meet those obligations. Neville says that he's actually here to ask for aid in investigating a situation, and didn't know about the writ at all. The old man mentions that they could volunteer to help before being writ-ed. Neville states that he is looking for volunteers to help investigate a situation. The old man says that he is paid up in his dues and has vacation time coming, and he has friends that are also paid up, and asks if Neville knows of a good vacation spot. Neville opens a way to the mountain. The old man looks surprised, and claims that it wasn't supposed to be possible. Neville studies one of the pictures, looking for trumpishness. It seems to be vaguely trumpish, as if it could be a trump drawn using a power with which the artist was unacquainted. Neville considers placing two ways in the air that lead to his dungeons in front of the paintings. Neville spills his guts about the computer, letting them know that it is confidential. He searches for Osric, and doesn't find any entries. Neville speculates that Osric has become a user. [Speculation occurs regarding just how Osric acquired an account] ----------------- Touring Reality with the Archivist Jean introduces the archivist to Laetatio. Cailin does something with truenames to make both of them say, "My name is Cailin". The archivist resists, but Cailin says that his name is Cailin. Laetatio trumps Cailin, and gets both of them. Laetatio gets a crafty look on his face and pushes, until Cailin threatens him with a marble. Laetatio considers trumping Flora until Jean says that she is reporting to the King. The archivist is shown a trump of Julian, and is told not to use it -- Julian fries people's brains. Cailin pipes in. "Crap - Dworkin! I almost forgot!" Natasha giggles. Jean tries to explain the Sea of Chance to the archivist. He mutters about containing the containers, scraws on a pad for a while, then rips a page off and starts reading out loud off the paper. Jean backs up. Cailin doesn't back up, but realizes that Natasha is nowhere to be seen. Laetatio is looking very interested. Cailin raises shields around Tate and himself. Jean can see Natasha asking for someone in charge to make bad things stop. Jean points out Cain to Natasha. Natasha rants; Caine pats her on the head. Jean decides to perform introductions. "Caine -- this is Natasha. She's sleeping with Cailin, and is the mother of his child. Natasha -- this is Caine. He's the sneakiest person in Amber." Jean explains. Caine decides that they should relocate the party. Jean relocates Vlad to Swayville. He starts crying out for alcohol, and is submerged in a pool of the stuff. Cailin has a good idea what the archivist is doing -- he's trying to replicate the situation outside a sphere around him. Cailin grabs the paper, tears it up, and jumps up and down on the bits. The archivist is confused. Cailin tries to explain why it would be a bad thing. Tate is picking up and burning shreds of the paper. Cailin casts a spell to tell those outside that the spell is gone and it is now safe. Jean tells the House Cara folks that a disaster has been averted, but the Pattern is still on the house. They worry about beer and pizza, then go back to the party. They decide to have Caine help out on the tour. Laetatio asks the archivist to not call him King, at least not in public -- he's not King in this sphere. Jean introduces the archivist to Caine, and asks about Pattern introductions. Caine pulls out a knife, and says, "Pattern." Jean and Cailin can't tell anything. The other Cailin says, it's just a knife. Cailin brings his sight up and can see that it's just a knife - he just conjured it. It's not even very real. Cailin pulls out his Logrus blade. Cailin and Jean don't like being that close to a Logrus blade. Suhuy is aware that someone just drew a Logrus blade. The archivist wonders about the itching in the inside of his ear. [Speculations occur that Caine and Raven's Logrus blades are Logrus masters, forced to tendri out and then beaten into a shape] The archivist says that the magic was something to change his essence, and that he used a bit of bibliomancy to reassert his true essence. The group travels to House Helgram. The doorman denies to existance of the hole and is pissy at them. He refuses outright when Cailin is introduced as head of House Moonlight and grandson of Princess Chandra. The doorman rants that Ilkandacian must be around here somewhere. The critters converging on the Jewel near Thelbane tore up the ground. Jean pulls out a Jewel of Judgment then puts it away. The doorman says, "What is that? That's not a writ or a treaty!" The group leaves. The doorman is writing in his notes, "Have turned away invasion of House Swayville and House Moonlight..." and is torn to pieces by critters. They the meaning of alles, courtesy, and power levels. The archivist explains that this sphere must be outside his normal reach, because his father is the most powerful person within his reach. Well, except for the man without a nose who killed his father. Laetatio rants at Julian's trump when he finds out that our Julian killed his alternate self. Jean offers to show the archivist a celestial sphere that is collapsing. The archivist offers to take them, if Jean would only explain in which direction along the spiral arm the sphere is. Jean counters that the archivist could return them, and the archivist replies that if he can't see the travel, he doesn't know what way to go. Cailin places a Crycheck marble on the ground, and places all of the others in a new sack in a concrete bowl. The archivist starts drawing on the ground, complains about it not being good ground, and then Cailin conjures a stone block to draw upon. Jean thinks that they should probably experiment in shadow, because that's what shadow is there for. Cailin opens a gate to the X-files shadow, and he and Jean go through. The archivist says, "That spiral!", walks towards the gate, and it goes down. Tate is left on the far side of the gate, and is gated in. The archivist says that these two are different spheres. Jean explains that they are shadows, and that each grouping of shadows is a reality. The archivist speculates that this "shadow" is a celestial sphere, and that Chaos and Amber are opposite ends of the spiral. Jean explains that there is at least one power that can create rifts or gates between realities. Cailin commands a local to pick up a marble. The archivist is fascinated. The archivist writes, using something that looks like a palm pilot stylus, and the letters sink into the ground itself. The archivist finishes, and the marble levitates. Cailin can tell that the archivist constrained the marble to be effected less by gravity. Jean says that Ilk has a theory that the marbles are a sphere within a sphere within a sphere. The archivist looks down at himself and speculates that he could traverse the spiral within himself. The archivist sees a hole in himself. People are confused briefly, then realize that the hole is bullet-sized. Cailin tries to true-name the assassin into a frog, and it's non-local; he doesn't know the true name. Jean saucers over there and sees a cursing guy with a sniper rifle. Cailin raises shields. Jean chats with the guy. The guy fires. Jean tractors the bullet, drops it, then grabs the guy and the gun separately and takes them back. They discuss dropping the guy in Lord Talos's queue. At the phrase "torturers guild", the assassin shapeshifts and shoots straight up, dragging Jean after him. Cailin tries to shield the guy and fails. He shoots three marbles after him. Jean drops the tractor beam and dodges the marbles, but the assassin leaves the shadow first. Jean sees something that might have been the assassin rush past the him that is guarding Bronelle's power. He calls out, "Stop him!" and a few Dancers block his path and chase him out into shadow. The time delay between the departure and the arrival was really short. Jean asks Cailin where this shadow is, explaining what just happened. Cailin tells Jean to tell the King, now. He sends a note into the King via an Etiquette Guild member. A note comes back out thanking and asking for any farther updates. A Jean saucer tells Snarsht about his plan to acquire snake Amberites to draw a Pattern in the evil Benedict reality to keep it from collapsing. The librarian asks the flying saucer why it is asking a cat about creating species of critters. Snarsht seems to be thinking about it. Dworkin has arrived at Vanir's Wrath, greets Verra, and then resumes his discussion with her about getting people out of the marbles or spheres. "Jean? Why aren't you wearing your jester's cap?" "Err... because Snarsht is in this reality?" "Oh, shit!" Dworkin pulls off his jester's cap and stuffs it away, scolding his apprentice for not appraising him of the situation sooner. "I don't want to go through that again." Jean tries to acquire information about Jewels of Judgment, but Dworkin is raving. Dworkin tries to reach into a pocket to pull out his notes, and discovers that it's just a pocket. Dworkin is told that the bad person who is trying to come back is the one who made his pocket go way. Dworkin is surprised to find out that the whale works but his pocket doesn't work. Dworkin pulls out a deck of trumps from a pouch, and finds them all warm. He declares a vindetta, and states that he should look for Finndo because he keeps track of that sort of thing. Dworkin tells Jean to tell the person that is currently writing stuff down that he has declared vindetta on the person whose name he is not supposed to say. Jean tells the Dancers' Guild. Dworkin has Jean fish in pen and paper. Dworkin writes something, folds the paper, hands it to Dworkin, and tells Jean to give it back to him at some point. After a while, Verra says that it is time to give him the note. Dworkin reads the note, and says, "Apparently this place is eating my memory. We should leave." They leave. (The note says, "If you don't remember writing this note, you should leave immediately".) Dworkin says that if anyone was foolish enough to bring the Jewel of Judgment to Chaos, all of Chaos would be hell-bent on returning it to the Serpent, and then the Serpent would have its eye back, and we would all become scales on the Serpent, and that would be static and boring. Jean and Dworkin try to figure out where to hide a Jewel of Judgment. Dworkin claims that the multiple Jewels of Judgment thing is similar to the Mathematicians trick with one grape being multiple grapes. Dworkin pulls out his hat, and tells Jean to acquire his as well. Dworkin creates a fish and throws it through a viewscreen. It lands near the hampster Pattern. Jean has a saucer pick it up, declare it to be Wixer, and order it to guard the Pattern. Llewella approaches it, feeds it something, and makes a friend. ------------------------- Ilk is Scolded by the Serpent Yuri woke up from his nap that started when Shiryu moved Ygg, and started towards the Logrus to bask for a while. Before reaching the Logrus, he is instantly forced into Suhuy's shape with a brief tendri state in between, and then finds himself in a large round room. The Serpent is in the room, but it's not a happy Serpent. There are a couple of blades of grass on the ground, with legs, not moving at all. One of the blades has a Logrus signature. Suhuy bows to greet the Serpent. Serpent looks at him and conveys to him the impression that if he had approved of Suhuys leaving this realm he would not have had to put him in this position in the first place. Yuri/Suhuy explains that he has no idea what happened. He's been out of touch for a while, ever since Shiryu returned Ygg to its original position. The Serpent explains that Suhuy must not leave this reality. "The you that was entrusted with the position of Suhuy was no longer in this reality, so you were forced into the role." Ilk responds, "I shall inform the others." "Now, about this grass..." The Serpent says that the grass is life-eating and some of it succeeded in walking the Logrus. It destroyed all that was still on the Logrus. It asks why it was not told about the grass sooner, and why it was placed on the Logrus in the first place. Yuri/Suhuy explains that he was unaware at the time that one could communicate with the Serpent, and that the grass got onto the Logrus accidentally while he was chaos-nuking a temple of their enemy that was being guarded by the grass. Serpent: "Shiryu doesn't like people chaos-nuking shadows." Ilk: "So I have been informed." Serpent: "Good." Ilk asks if the Serpent has any advice on how he might go about tracking down the grass that escaped. The Serpent suggests that he track down the grass quickly, before the mistake is noticed, and possibly ask for aid from the other Realms Lords before the mistake is noticed more widely. "I do hear that unicorns graze on grass, though." Ilk visibly considers the idea, then remembers one of his original questions. "But speaking of the Unicorn..." Ilk explains the Gwen problem, the rifts, her reincarnation plot, and her involvement in the two times that Ilk needed rescuing. The Serpent realizes that the grass was Gwen's doing. The Serpent decides to take it personally. "I must see my sister." "Sister, Lord?" "Chandra." Ilk continues his earlier thread and mentions the meeting of powers. The Serpent agrees to attend, and will stretch his perceptions to include the places where Melk travels, so that he will know when the meeting is scheduled. Ilk indirectly asks the Serpent for directions to the Unicorn so an invitation can be delivered, and upon being asked, blames Shiryu for the asking. "The direction of my wrath indicates that the Unicorn inhabits the space around Amber." The Serpent says that he has just noticed the tendils of the one formerly in that position arriving here. He continues, "I will speed up things... that one will be my apprentice, at least for as long as the meeting." "I trust that is a different positon from Suhuy?" "You shall be my eyes and my tongue, and you shall not have a choice of the shape in which you solidify in, at least until this meeting is done. " The Serpent tells Suhuy to get the other one here. Yuri/Suhuy contacts and updates the former Suhuy. That one updates the other Ilks, then joins Suhuy and the Serpent, remaining tendri'd out. Ilk tells the Serpent about the rift on the Logrus in the other reality, Toram's abuse of that place to gain the mind-washed imports, and other related events. The Serpent is pleased when he finds out that the Realms Master in that place as well as the council of bureaucrats are preventing any from attempting that Logrus, and congratulates Ilk on his actions. The Serpent states that he will investigate the situation personally after the meeting time is known. Ilk asks the Serpent for information about the rifts -- how common they were in the past, how they were created, and so on. The Serpent claims little knowledge of them, and states that he never stumbled across them when he moved more upon this plane. "[the rifts] are not good things; they make my scales itch" Ilk tells the Serpent that Shiryu threatened to reboot reality if the rift problem was not solved, and that finding a less dramatic solution to the rifts is probably one of the reasons behind the meeting of powers. The Serpent states that rebooting reality would work, and offers an alternative. "There is another option besides rebooting reality. My eye could be returned." "That would close the rifts?" "My scales would be full -- they would no longer itch." "I am not certain where it is at this moment." "I have not required that of any of my disciples. Requested, but not required." Behind Ilk, he hears a familiar voice, "Summoned, I appear." It is Princess Chandra. The Serpent speaks verbally for the first time since Ilk has entered the room. "There appears to be a problem. It has come to my attention that one seeks to disturb even me. Suhuy will arrange with you the details on her elimination. He will be my agent on this, and you will have him convey back the proof that she will no longer be a bother." Princess Chandra turns, lays a hand gently on Suhuy's shoulder, and whispers in his ear, "We'll discuss the details later." She then takes a step back to where she was standing, says, "I go to do what you require of me", and her presence is no longer behind Ilkandacian. The tendri'd out Ilk who is in the room is fairly certain that the power used for her arrival and departure was Serpent power. He's not sure whether Princess Chandra or the Serpent used the power, however. A small flake, as if a leaf, detaches itself from near the Serpent's neck and floats downward. When it reaches eye level, Suhuy can see that it is a scale about 8 inches across, and then it lands. The tendri'd out Ilk notices that the scale is full of Serpent power. Suhuy takes the scale. It feels vibrantly alive, but it's not really a being. There is nobody in it at the moment. Suhuy looks up at the Serpent. "A prison?" "A container. Some return to me earlier than others." Suhuy ties off a ganglion with a note saying untie me later. [serpent is where people go when they die? ilk died, became scale, returned/switched places with Norton... does bringing people back involve stealing scales from the serpent?] Ilk asks if it is harmful to the Reality for new Powers to appear on a Reality, and is told to ask Shiryu. Ilk describes the pedestals that Gwen was using, and how they travel cross-shadow, cross-reality, and are possibly shaped like a tree, when the Serpent interrupts. "Perhaps a web of these conduits?" "Perhaps." "Perhaps you should inquire of our lesser contemporary Pharaban." harmful to gain pattern and logrus on places? depends on perspective. Change, definitely If the Pattern and Logrus were not in this Reality, you would never exist. Ilk mentions the forming of the nebula Logrus, and the different appearance. "The Logrus takes on whatever form she desires." many logruses = faces of one thing? inexpresable in language you know. suhuy entered one logrus, exited another. Not yet skilled enough to re-walk the logrus, so it is a moot point. asks when the real suhuy will be coming back. "All promotions are permanent." Suhuy states that it has been bothering them for some time that they do not have the skill to properly carry out the role, nobody to train them. "You are doing well enough for the time being, my apprentice will learn and share with the others." Is there a relation between the Sea of Chance and the Abyss? They are two entirely different things - one came about when the Pattern ripped a space, and the other has always been. --EORun--
