ROUGH DRAFT Run Log for 970218 Present: Barb - Cathryn Dave R - Malachai Dave K - Ilk, logging Tia - Damia Jody - Cyndia ---------------------- Major Events: * Demons Begin Flooding the Courts of Chaos * Cathryn and Ilk Enter the Paths of the Dead ---------------------- Demons Begin Flooding the Courts of Chaos Ilk sees a visual explosion, and the local number of demons starts multiplying. The Pattern-glow hurts. He vaguely considers raising shields, and Logruses a note to Cathryn, "Demons, many, incoming" Cathryn is chatting with Clarissa, who is planning on taking the rock back to her domain to study it. Cathryn tries to talk Clarissa out of killing all of the demons in Chaos. Cathryn receives Ilk's note, leaves the tent, approaches Ilk, and insists on leaving, now. Ilk teleports them elsewhere in the Courts. Cathryn starts shifting off, saying that they should begin their quest. Ilk asks about acquiring Clarissa, and Cathryn insists on leaving. Ilk teleports them out into shadow a bit. ---------------------- In Amber Malachai receives a trump contact, and accepts it. It's Benedict, who hides a grin behind his hand upon seeing Malachai and Serena. Benedict warns Malachai about Ingold's rock and a possible invasion of demons from the Courts. He says that he gave the rock to Cathryn, and that she was going to summon Clarissa to deal with it. Benedict lists the level of threat, referring Malachai to an incursion when Eric was nominally king in his journals. Malachai tells Benedict that Julian was in command of a number of troops from Tarinal, Benedict's shadow, when he invaded Arden. Benedict promises to prevent any future incursions from that shadow without his knowledge. --------------------- Outside the Shapeshifters' Guild Cyndia and Damia are in the tent outside the Shapeshifters' Guild. A bird sent after Cathryn returns, and says, "They're not out there" "?" "There are lots of others, though." "What?" "Demons" "What are they doing?" "Massing" Blaze is outside the tent. Damia, Cyndia, Natasha, Maria, Clarissa, and Random are in the tent. Damia: "Random?" Random: "Yes, mom?" Damia: "Would you be able to see the Pattern chains?" Random: "No." Cyndia asks Clarissa why there are demons massing outside. Damia taunts Clarissa, and Clarissa goes outside to see what the demons are up to. Cyndia asks about the demons, and the tent goes transparent. There is no Clarissa visible outside the tent, but there are lots of demons. Random offers to bug out - the rest want to stay. Random trumps out. The furniture has disappeared. Cyndia asks "How long this will take?" The tent responds, "Three or four weeks." Furniture keeps disappearing. They ask if Carlton can be moved, and receive no response. The tent flap is opened by Blaze - she tells them to "come out and look around - it's neat!" "We can see." "Hey - one way glass!" Four birds and a Cyndia-bird fly out. They scout the area. The demons are just massing, not doing much, and have no obvious hostile intent. Teresa and Maria have disappeared. Corn dogs are appearing. Cyndia tries to make a rook invisible, it mostly fails. Cyndia conjures then de-conjures a corn dog. They form a defensive ring around Carlton. ------------------ Rescuing House Cara from Little Black Demons Ilk teleports himself and Cathryn to House Cara. There are big demons massing outside, and little black demons inside. Ilk tries to deal with the little demons. Some experimentation ensues... Logrus causes the little demons to multiply. They are coming out of the corners of the room, and take lots of magical energy to explode. Ilk tries sweeping them into a shadow gate, and pulls some troops from Home to help. They squish the demons well, and help sweep demons into the gate. Cathryn laughs. Ilk tries to place a magical barrier around the corners, to no avail. He tries to get his troops to form barriers around the corners, but they fill up soon. Cathryn tries to trump Stormy and fails. The demons run off with her trump, Ilk and Cathryn retrieve it. Ilk searches for a House member and demands a status report. He finds most of the members of the House hiding in a fiery globe playing cards. They say that fire and round things seem to repel the demons. The first destination shadow fills up remarkably quickly. Someone in the second shadow opens a gate and starts pushing the demons back, so Ilk opens a gate to a third shadow. Ilk tells his troops to englobe the edges and corners in the house. They start doing so. One of them figures out how to do it in such a way to block the entrance of the demons and shows the others. Ilk summons lots more troops, and they start rounding all of the sharp bits in the House. It works. Bulldozing into gates, englobing corners, and squashing demons, they start making headway. Ilk automates the process, and pulls in enough troops to cover ever non-round surface in the House. Ilk and Cathryn teleport back into shadow. ---------------- The Search for Jesby and Cara Begins Cathryn looks for Jesby with the ring. There is no pull. She tries Logrus-searching, with no luck. They go to Dragaera, arriving in Morrolan's courtyard. There is an argument between a Hawklord and a sneering easterner. A Logrus-search for Morrolan reveals that he is in his study. They send a page up, and an invitation comes back down. They head upstairs. Morrolan, Sethra, and Aliera are in the library. Morrolan greets Cathryn, and snubs Ilk. Cathryn asks if any of them know of someone who might be good at searching, and Sethra volunteers. Cathryn mentions subtlety, and Aliera makes a snide comment at Sethra's expense. Morrolan tosses Sethra a token, so she can contact him should she run into problems returning. Sethra strokes Iceflame. Cathryn shows Sethra the ring. Sethra draws Iceflame. It's Morganti, and very powerful. Sethra says that the ring is bound to Cathryn the most. Cathryn complains that she has nothing else of the one she is searching for, since her entire House is missing. Ilk sends back to his House for a small carved thing of Cara's. Sethra searches on that, and says that the target is out of range, and that her friend Mikail calibrated her range at several thousand shadows. Ilk asks if they could try from somewhere else - sure. Sethra asks if she can do something first. She concentrates on a medallion, and a sarcastic voice comes from behind Ilk and Cathryn, "Yes?" ----------------- In Amber Malachai finishes with Serena, wakes her up, and trumps to the Amber courtyard. He trumps Zack, out of range. He trumps Oberon, blocked hard. He trumps Rhiannon, empty echo. He trumps Bleys, ditto. He trumps Corwin, out of range. He trumps Caine, and succeeds. "What's up?" Malachai tells Caine about the possible demonic invasion from the Courts. Malachai tells his staff to prepare for a possible invasion. Evening rolls around. ----------------- In the Tent The AD&D run has encircled Carlton in a defensive ring. Natasha is producing quick-setting cement, and building siege engines out of them. Cyndia starts hardening the corn dogs. They're already hard. Cyndia starts sharpening the corn dogs. There are uncountable lots of demons. They watch the demons mass. ---------------- In Amber There is a knock on Malachai's door in the middle of the night. "Delivery, a message from the Courts of Chaos." "How did it get here?" "Drop point" The note is from Random, "To whomever is in command - I may need sanctuary, soon." Malachai writes a note back welcoming Random, signs it as Malachai, and has it sent back to Random. ---------------- In the Tent Not much happens. Blaze occasionally pokes her head in the tent, and asks if all is well. They play chess. ---------------- Entering the Paths of the Dead Cathryn whips around. The person behind them is female, and has an extra joint in her fingers. She pulls Ilk, Cathryn, Sethra, and herself elsewhere. It's a white place, and the newcomer is in the only chair. Cathryn tries Logrus-summoning a chair, and fails. Ilk checks out the local shadow with Logrus - it's strongly bounded. She introduces herself as Verra, the Demon Goddess, and boasts that this place is secure even against the Jenoi. Ilk and Cathryn proceed to negotiate for Verra's aid in their search. Sethra tries to convince Verra that she should help out of the goodness of her own heart and annoys Verra, so Verra sends Sethra back to Castle Black. Cathryn agrees to find Verra three lovers of quality. Cathryn and Verra sign a contract, and Verra sends Cathryn out. Ilk continues to waffle. --EORun--
