Zach and Auricle get back to Amber. We go through the back entrance to the castle, so as not to bother Caine, and realize there are dead bodies everywhere. All these dead bodies seem to have been hacked apart by someone with a Benedict-like skill. We eventually find someone (not) hacked to death, and Zach gets an update on castle happenings. We decide to go check out the stuff in Arden first. So we head out there, say hi to the guard-types there, and somehow Zach gets eaten by the river. Zach basically ends up imprisoned underwater. Somehow he can breath. He's shackled to a table. What else he did I don't remember, it was a con, we were running in the hallway, I got distracted a lot. Auricle goes back to the Castle and tries to go to the Pattern to walk it, and power up, and try to get to Zach. Course, there are guards on the Pattern, since there's a rift to Hillbilly Amber or something in front of the Pattern room. Auricle needs Benedict's permission to enter, so she goes back up the stairs, shapeshifts into Zach holding a note from Benedict saying that he can enter, and gets waved through. Right through the rift, into an alternate Amber. She realizes this and starts to try to find her back and can't. She gets chased by some guards and shapeshifts herself invisible. She doesn't want to try walking the Pattern in an alternate Amber, at least, not castle Amber's Pattern. So she eventually pulls out her trumps, trumps to the main hall of the castle, is surrounded by a war in progress, and shapeshifts really small till she escapes. She goes to Tir, and waits for the moon to come up. She knows the Tir Pattern has a strange affinity for her. Tir comes into focus, she goes up, gets to the Pattern, it raises itself up off the floor happy to see her, changes into the Pattern from her own Amber, and drinks her down. She walks it in her usual manner, and then wishes herself back home. She goes back to her lab to check on things, and lo and behold Gwen has rigged her labs to explode. White powder turning into Gwen statues is everywhere. She checks a few more of her shadows and all the labs are rigged. She doesn't check all of them, because there's no need to; she assumes they are all rigged, and she knows she acts like a piece of fluff, so maybe if she doesn't check them all, Gwen won't realize she knows about all of her shadows. Not certain what do to, she calls Benedict for help in trumps. Benedict finds out she had been on Bug Detail with Zach and pulls her through to help him. She ends up in a room with Benedict A standing there after pulling her through, Benedict B strapped to a table unconscious, and what she assumes to be Benedict C lying on the floor cut up and dissected into very small little bits. Benedict explains that he is trying to find a way to differentiate between the various Amber dopplegangers. Auricle thinks about it for a moment and has a private conversation with the gargoyle about DNA analysis, or more appropriately, Pattern analysis. Each Amberite has the imprint of the Pattern from their home Amber. Auricle knows this from having walked the Pattern in Zach to get back to her own body. The gargoyle can run an analysis of the DNA and 'see' the Pattern imprint. Auricle runs her own sample, then that of the Benedict on the floor and Benedict on the table. Neither matches her. She tells this to Benedict A. Benedict A basically decides he wants to keep Auricle with him till he can find a way to check Amberites as well. Auricle doesn't know right now if this Benedict is hers; he could be an alternate, and she's not dumb enough to potentially insult him and ask for a tissue sample. She doesn't know if she is in her own Amber. She doesn't know what happened to Zach. She doesn't know what else Gwen is planning on doing to her. All in all, this has Auricle pretty upset. --EORun--
